Let us nurture nature to have a nurturing future!

Environment plays an important role in healthy living and the existence of life on planet earth. Earth is a home for different living species and we all are dependent on the environment for food, air, water, and other needs. Therefore, it is important for every individual to save and protect our environment.

Waste generations by residents in the Philippines, especially in the urban areas, have accelerated recently due to fast pace industrialization, urbanization and population growth. Since incineration of solid waste is not allowed under Republic Act 9003 for the safety of human health and protection of environment, land filling and the 3 integrated waste management method (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) are the main types of SWM in the country. The law also requires the mandatory segregation at source of solid waste into containers labeled as: compostable, recyclable, non-recyclable, or special use.

Proper waste disposal is beneficial to the environment. Without it, the land and its underlying resources are prone to contamination. And contamination can lead to various diseases and other health concerns. In the past, it has been a common practice to burn waste at the landfill or in the backyard.

Think about how much waste you, one single person, goes through. From simply opening each ingredient that goes into your dinner to the gum wrapper you used earlier, you can begin to imagine how much waste is produced each day.

Without the solid waste disposal system we have available in our country, we wouldn’t have the clean and refreshing environment we have today.

One of the main reasons we feel so strongly about proper waste disposal is because of its positive contribution to the environment.

Not only does it keep our streets clear of any rubbish, but it also lowers any negative impact waste disposal may have.

If you are following proper waste disposal, you will send your junk to the right place. This goes beyond your average household rubbish and is also relevant to skip bins.

By using the right waste type and following the guidelines, you will be helping us make a positive impact on the environment. We reuse what we can from your skips instead of sending it to the landfill.

Solid waste management is a term that is used to refer to the process of collecting and treating solid wastes. It also offers solutions for recycling items that do not belong to garbage or trash. As long as people have been living in settlements and residential areas, garbage or solid waste has been an issue. Waste management is all about how solid waste can be changed and used as a valuable resource.

Solid waste management should be embraced by each and every household, including the business owners across the world. The industrialization has brought a lot of good things and bad things as well. One of the adverse effects of industrialization is the creation of solid waste.

Other ways we can do to protect the environment and reduce wastes are the following:

1. Donate clothes you don't use anymore.

2. Reduce Food Waste.

3. Shop wisely.

4. Follow the 3r's.

5. Avoid using single-use items.

Living in a clean environment makes life healthier, less

stressful, and more pleasant. It can improve the self-image

of residents and of the neighborhood as a whole. A

neighborhood that smells like garbage or looks like a dump is

an undesirable place to live and work.

Now let's help each other and recover mother earth!

MY HERO, MY FATHER, MY FRIEND

From plaiting our hair and carrying us on our shoulders as kids, to picking us up from parties as a teen and giving advice on cars and bills as adults, dads do a lot for us, and deserve to be treated  and Father’s Day is the perfect time to do just that.

Father's Day is a day when people honor the men in their lives. It is a day for children to express gratitude to their fathers and father figures. For adults, it is a day to express how much they love and appreciate their fathers and husbands. Although many of us celebrate Father's Day, we may be unaware of its origins. Surprisingly, this holiday was not widely celebrated at first. People eventually accepted the idea of fathers' influence on their families, particularly on their children's lives.

The celebration of Father’s Day reminds us about both the importance and the challenges of fatherhood. Fathers don’t always enjoy the glow of intimacy and admiration we give our mothers. Indeed, fathers have the cultural image of bread winner, disciplinarian, authority figure. When you were growing up, how often did you hear your mother say, “just wait until your father gets home!” Traditionally, our culture has often put fathers into a very difficult role. They must be aloof but intimate; must earn the wage, but be present; must be compassionate, but disciplinarian.

I salute all the wonderful fathers who have touched the lives of many people, be it their own kids, somebody else’s kid, family, people they have mentored, people they have coached and the world at large.

Thank you for being great fathers. We appreciate your existence and the impactful and significant role you have played in our lives.

Father is a person who lets you experiment life in your own way and pulls you up when you fall.

He lets you get angry on him and loves you more after that.

He lets you see things your own way and then gives his view point.

Is with you always, especially when you need him.

Let’s honour the dads who give everything to their families.

We can’t be in this world without our fathers. They have always been that one reliable man in our lives, and they have always treated us with a stern yet loving hand. We have always looked up to them as an inspiration through the years. We will never cease to follow their footsteps and will always make the right decision like they have taught us.

No matter how famous or successful we are, our first identity is that of someone’s son or daughter.

I believe that what we become depends on what our fathers teach us at odd moments, when they aren’t trying to teach us. We are formed by little scraps of wisdom.

Our understanding of what “family” means also is evolving. Some of us have had the pleasure of being a godfather or “father figure” to younger family members who may have lost their biological father. Many children grow up in single parent homes with only a father or a mother. We have learned that it’s the love, care and presence that define fatherhood.

“Nationalism is nourished by a sense of history”: Araw ng Kasarinlan

Filipino independence struggle that, after more than 300 years of Spanish colonial rule, exposed the weakness of Spanish administration but failed to evict Spaniards from the islands.Independence of the Philippines was a mighty feat.

On independence day, the sacrifices of the national heroes are remembered, the country's sovereignty is appreciated, instilling nationalism in the citizens, as well as celebrating the culture and tradition of its people. The Philippines gained its independence from Spain in 1898 after a long and bloody war.

Independence Day (Filipino: Araw ng Kasarinlan; also Araw ng Kalayaan, lit. "Day of Freedom") is an annual national holiday observed on June 12 in the Philippines, commemorating the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on June 12, 1898. It is the country's birthday. Throughout the nation's history, the day of celebration for war and love has changed.

By virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 28, issued by then-President Diosdado Macapagal on May 12, 1962, the day became known as "Independence Day" in the Philippines. The proclamation declared June 12 a special public holiday in the Philippines "... in commemoration of our people's declaration of their inherent and inalienable right to freedom and independence."

The Filipino people celebrate Independence Day this year as they prepare to welcome a new set of leaders and recover from the Covid-19 pandemic (Philippine Army, 2022). This year's theme emphasizes recovery and the country's rise to the problems of the previous years, particularly the pandemic.

In celebrating Independence Day, many people, including government officials, employees, and students, take part in nationwide parades. The main attraction, however, is the police and military parade in Manila led by the country's incumbent president, which is followed by a speech and a 21-gun salute. Many Filipinos spend their days at parks and shopping malls. Many Filipino communities in other countries also celebrate the country's Independence Day. The public holiday celebrates Philippine history, freedom and culture. They hang up the flag in most public places and take a day off.

Matricentric: “Gravitating toward or centered upon our Mothers”

Mother’s Day, it is a one time thing we celebrate every year to show our gratitude and tribute to women who gave birth and raised us.

The holiday originated in the United States, where it is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. Many other countries observe the holiday on this date, while others do so at other times of the year.

The day is an event to honor the contribution of mothers, acknowledge the efforts of maternal bonds and the role of mothers in our society.

The essence of motherhood is raising a child through birth and assisting him or her in maturing into an adult. It is a challenge in and of itself, as she will face numerous difficulties along the way.  This is a special day for both children and mothers because it allows them to celebrate their everlasting bond of love and affection. It goes without saying that being a mother is one of the most difficult and rewarding jobs there is.

At a certain point, many people find themselves more about doing things than having things. And that’s what’s on our minds as we think about this Mother’s Day. Whether it’s about honoring our Moms or letting our families know how we want to celebrate, the gift of time is at the top of our list. Time with the people we love. Time to do what we love. Time to relax and be present and enjoy the moment.

But one day isn't enough to express our appreciation for all they've done to keep us happy, safe, and healthy. They do so much for us that we don't even realize it. So the least we can do is remember them whenever we have the opportunity.

We also need to be open, that there are many types of moms, and every single one of them is equally important and deserve to receive affections and appreciations.

To every mother who raised a child alone, or children who aren’t of her own.

To every mother who became one without a baby.

To every mother who left us, but still resides in our hearts.

To every mother who gave birth and raised us.

Your smile is what gets us through the day, no matter what happens or how much trouble we face. We would go to any length to safeguard it and cherish you. We adore you and are grateful for everything you've done for us.

Bigueños Commemorating the Abel Iloco

"Binatbatan Festival traces its roots from the abel weaving industry of Vigan which has been in existence even before the Spaniards came to colonize the Philippines."

The practice of beating cotton pods to remove the seeds for Abel weaving is known as "binatbatan." Locals regarded this as an occupational dance involving two sticks known as "batbat." During the week-long festival, the Binatbatan street dance is one of the primary attractions.

It is a dance that originated in the Philippines' northeastern province of Ilocos. This dance's whimsical motions were devised exclusively for youngsters and mimic the actions of cotton growers who use sticks to remove the seeds from the threads.

The streets were closed, and people gathered in specific areas. The drums are pounding loudly and proudly. The street dancers proudly shout "Viva Vigan!" in colorful costumes. The Binatbatan festival has grown to be one of the largest cultural gatherings in the Philippine archipelago.

Binatbatan Festival is one of the most known festivals in our town, Vigan City.

Every bigueño is looking forward to celebrate this festival every year. A meaningful event to  commemorate the Abel Iloco hand-loom weaving industry.

Diversity. Equality. Unity

Throughout life, women have been experiencing a kind of situation where they do not receive equal rights  as men.  It is a spread of nationalism and it brings awareness to several people.  A majority group of women from different countries, races, cultures, and languages speak of situations where they have been abused, threatened, victimized, mistreated, and judged based on their gender and capabilities. In spite that it is an issue, women perform their behavior in a different kind maner from fear and the decisions they make will change their life drastically.

The collage that I made is with reference with the theme about Women’s Health.

In many aspects, women's health contrasts from that of men. The World Health Organization defines health as a state of total physical, mental, and social well-being, not only the absence of disease or infirmity, and women's health is an example of population health. Globally, women have fewer opportunities for economic participation than men, less access to basic and higher education, greater health and safety risks, and less political representation.

In addition, The pandemic has deepened pre-existing gender inequalities and has disproportionately affected women and girls. Women are losing livelihoods because they are overrepresented in sectors and jobs hardest hit by COVID-19.

A recent report by UN Women shows that women’s mental health has suffered a larger setback: 57% of women noting increases in stress and anxiety, compared to 48% of men. Increased unpaid care and domestic workloads, anxiety over income loss, and the impacts of movement restrictions on gender-based violence, are all contributing factors.Women have been at the frontlines of the COVID-19 reaction. They have played a critical role in attempts to reduce infection rates and position their countries for economic recovery.

Women's rights must be protected and chances given to them to fulfill their full potential in order to attain gender equality and a variety of other international development goals. Women and girls who are empowered contribute to the health and productivity of their families, communities, and countries, benefiting everyone.

Clearly,  the aim of my collage is to show Women’s unity, empowerment. Women's empowerment is defined as promoting women's self-esteem, freedom to take decisions, and right to affect societal change for themselves and others. It is the best move for women to fight for equal rights.

In conclusion, women empowerment refers to the creation of an environment for personal benefits as well as for society. women also should be given equal rights like men to actually empower them. They need to be strong, aware, and alert every time for their growth and development. We need gender equality urgently. Gender equality prevents violence against women and girls. It’s essential for economic prosperity. Societies that value women and men as equal are safer and healthier. Gender equality is a human right. Everyone benefits from gender equality.

Mirroring the knowledge I gained this 3rd Quarter

The learning and discoveries I gained this 3rd quarter is about demonstrating and understanding of concepts and basic knowledge in Community Based- Project. All community research is different in some way, the size and scope of these projects are determined firstly by the community they cater to.

According to the definition of a community, it could be the entire human race or parts of it anywhere on the planet. However, because of phenomena like distance decay or demographic factors such as age group, gender, and income that determine the social identity of groups, the extent of community-based projects is usually much more limited.

I also learned how to distinguish the components, construct a project, identify the sitemap fundamentals, and create a sitemap. I've learned a lot this quarter, and I'm happy for the opportunity to broaden my horizons and stretch my intellect. Because not everyone has the opportunity to study and improve their abilities and understandings, I will make sure that the knowledge I've received here is put to good use.

The challenges I encountered this quarter are, not fully understanding some of the topics because I’m still learning how to make a good research and I was not sure if the sitemap that I made is correct. But still, I think I did well and hoping that I can still learn a lot of things about it. It was fun and interesting studying it.

I address these challenges by browsing the internet to get more informations about our certain topics, to understand it clearly. Also, I tried my best to dig some of my old notes about research to serve as a guide.

Moving on, I'll keep learning and see if I can apply what I've learned so far in this third-quarter in the near future. I’ll also continue to enhance my skills in making a research because it will be useful. Lastly, I will always try my best in everything to prevent regrets and to get high scores.

Perception about Covid Vaccines for Teens and Children

Widespread vaccination for COVID-19 is a critical tool to best protect everyone from COVID-19 and COVID-19 related complications. Children, like adults and teens who have COVID-19, can spread the virus when they are asymptomatic. Furthermore, while children may experience lesser symptoms when infected with COVID-19, many children still get serious lung infections that necessitate hospitalization. Other consequences, such as multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children, may necessitate specialized treatment or leave patients with long-term difficulties. While children are less likely to have a severe illness at first, they are more susceptible to long-term COVID symptoms once they have recovered. I believe that it is our only and best defense right now to prevent us from getting the virus. I’m gonna indicate the reasons why, the vaccines are beneficial and important for the teens and childrens to get. Vaccinating children can help protect family members, including siblings who are not eligible for vaccination and family members who may be at increased risk of getting very sick if they are infected.

Vaccination can also help keep children from getting seriously sick even if they do get COVID-19.

Vaccinating children ages 5 years and older can help keep them in school and help them safely participate in sports, playdates, and other group activities. Vaccines against infectious diseases have been advised for children for decades and are now a requirement in many school systems. Parents who are vocal about immunizing their children should encourage others in their community to do the same. Speaking with your children about the advantages of immunizations may also encourage them to send a good message to their peers. The vaccine is safe and efficacious in the 22 million children aged 5 to 17 who have been fully immunized for COVID-19, according to the most recent studies. The vaccination has a low risk of serious side effects, although common side effects such as a sore arm, moderate headache, and weariness, which can also occur in adults, should be expected. Furthermore, current tests demonstrate that the COVID-19 vaccination has no long-term side effects, but this is how science and medicine progresses.

Valor and Memories

Valor day, also known as Araw ng Kagitingan or Bataan Day, commemorates the fall of Bataan, an important event in Filipino history. On the 9th of April 1942, during World War 2, Major General Edward P. King Jr. was forced to surrender his troops to the Japanese army. And it is one of the most-devastating military defeats in American history. The force on Bataan, numbering some 76,000 Filipino and American troops, is the largest army under American command ever to surrender.

Unprepared for the number of prisoners, the Japanese decided to walk the prisoners 150km to a prison camp in San Fernando. Over 20,000 prisoners died on this march either through starvation, exhaustion or at the hands of the Japanese. The trek became infamous as the 'Bataan Death March'.

For the whispered words, “Bataan has fallen,” which was beamed by a freedom radio station that fateful day, merely signaled the start of a liberation struggle that was to rank the Filipinos among the world's most intense and courageous freedom fighters. “Araw ng Kagitingan is relevant in our society, this week-long commemoration is an opportunity to remember not only Filipino war veterans who died or served their country, but also those who served honorably in the military in times of war or peace.

Behind the “Lenten Season”

Lent is the 40-day period preceding Easter in the Christian calendar. Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday, is a season of reflection and preparation before the Easter celebrations. By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days.

It is an important religious observance in the Christian world because it marks and commemorates the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God's son, our Savior, and Redeemer. It's a good time and an opportunity to think about what it means to be a Christian. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. Also Lent, known as the "Great Fast," is a period of time during which Christians are supposed to give up some comfort or embrace some spiritual practice that focuses on self, repentance from sin, and, overall, soul renewal, all in anticipation of greater devotion to serving others and God. Catholics are not supposed to eat meat on Ash Wednesday. They also are expected to give up meat on Fridays during Lent. Catholics also are expected to fast on Ash Wednesday. Fasting means consuming only one full meal a day; two smaller meals that don't together add up to a full meal also are allowed. Almsgiving is, at its core, a spiritual and religious practice that helps strengthen our fondness for others, enhances our detachment, and encourages greater social justice. This three-fold meaning of almsgiving allows us to understand why it is so important during the Lenten season.

The Lenten Season is a time when people remember Jesus Christ's sufferings and death. During the Lenten season, people usually do three traditional things: pray, fast, and give alms. We have the capability and ability to be holy as sinners if we allow Christ into our lives.

We become responsible, law-abiding citizens and peacemakers if we obey his teachings. We become selfless, pondering of others who will benefit from our great actions, compassion, generosity, and gratitude. We become more conscientious of and concerned about others, particularly the underprivileged, underserved, marginalized, disabled, elderly, helpless, and hopeless among us.

Exposition of the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival being implented every year

Ilocos Sur is a beautiful province located in the northern part of Luzon. It is a province rich in culture that represents the ancient Spanish and Filipino heritage. To show and share their treasures to the whole world, the locals conceived a festival that highlights these cultural traditions and they called it the “Kannadiwan Festival”.

Kannawidan is a festival in the Province of Ilocos Sur commemorating the separation of the two Ilocos provinces in 1818. This festival is a showcase of indigenous performances, religious rituals, as well cooking demos featuring the best of Ilocano dishes.

Kannawidan is a part of our traditions to acknowledge talented ilocanos with their handmade artworks to vend. It is our region’s pride and joy. This festival is implemented here in a yearly basis, this ilocano culture is what we are looking forward every year. Also, kannawidan has beneficial impacts in terms of economic, social, and cultural aspect.
